McCorquodale Guides Bobcats Past Lamar, 3-1

Caleigh McCorquodale handed out a career-high 54 assists in the four-set Texas State win

Junior setter Caleigh McCorquodale engineered a highly efficient Texas State offense on Thursday evening that propelled the Bobcats to a 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-20) victory over Lamar in front of 668 fans at Strahan Coliseum.

 

The win is the second straight in conference for the Bobcats, who improved to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in Southland action. Meanwhile, Lamar was dealt its first SLC defeat of the season in dropping to 4-14 overall and 2-1 in the league.

 

McCorquodale posted her team-high sixth double-double of the season while also recording a career-high 54 assists. The junior was on point with her sets throughout the evening and helped the Bobcats to a .367 hitting percentage as a team.

 

A native of Cypress, Texas, McCorquodale helped four Bobcats get into double figures in kills, including sophomores Amari Deardorff and Melissa Toth, who tied for the match high with 16 kills each. Senior transfer Lindy DeGeare recorded a season-high 15 kills, while sophomore Ashlee Hilbun tied her career-high with 12 kills.

 

McCorquodale's play on the defense end was also on display as she recorded a match-high 13 digs and three blocks (one solo, two assists). She was joined by senior Amber Calhoun (12 digs) and Hilbun (10 digs) with double-digit saves.

 

Not to be overlooked was the play of Hilbun, who with her 12 kills and 10 digs recorded her first career double-double. The middle blocker added a .579 hitting percentage on the offensive end along with a pair of blocks.

 

Deardorff excited the Strahan Coliseum crowd throughout the night with thunderous kills from her right side hitter position. She finished with night without committing a hitting error, recording a team-high .593 hitting percentage on 27 swings.

 

DeGeare added three aces to bring her conference-leading total to 33 for an average of nearly an ace per set. The outside hitter also posted a .423 hitting percentage along with three digs.

 

Toth sparked the Bobcats early in the match, putting down 11 of her 16 kills within the first two sets of the match. She finished the night with a .243 hitting percentage while also adding four digs defensively.

 

The Bobcats overcame 16 service errors on the night thanks in part to significant advantages in kills (66-43), hitting percentage (.367-.143) and digs (60-49). The two teams tied with five blocks apiece.

 

Texas State returns to action on Saturday, October 1 with a 2 p.m. match at Strahan Coliseum against McNeese State. Tickets are on sale through the Texas State Athletics Ticket Office.
