San Marcos, Texas –
Senior Lindy DeGeare capped off an outstanding day at the service line with her seventh ace of the day on match point to give the Texas State a sweep of the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (25-17, 25-15, 25-23) on Saturday afternoon at Strahan Coliseum as the Bobcats picked up their first Southland Conference victory of the season.

A transfer from Cal State Bakersfield, DeGeare was a mainstay behind the service line on Saturday as she posted a season high seven aces in addition to numerous serves that led to overpasses and easy Texas State points. The outside hitter began the match with three aces within the first seven points of set one and kept the Islanders serve receive on their heals all day long.

DeGeare's seven aces were two off the Texas State single-match record of nine set in 1985 by Margaret Mitcham against Northwestern State. Her performance was also the most aces in a match for a Texas State played since 2008 when former Bobcat, Brittany Collins, had seven aces against Louisiana-Monroe.

In addition to her serving prowess, DeGeare added a season-high 12 kills while tying her season best with a .429 hitting percentage. She needed just 21 swings to put down 12 kills in three sets of action.

With the win, Texas State improved its record to 10-6 overall and 1-1 in the Southland Conference, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi dropped to 8-9 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Sophomore Melissa Toth made her return to starting lineup on Saturday in impressive fashion as she tied DeGeare for the match high with 12 kills while posting a .458 hitting percentage. She also contributed on the defensive end at the net and in the back row, posting a season-high-tying four blocks along with six digs.

Junior Caleigh McCorquodale took charge of the Bobcat offense and handed out 32 assists for the match while helping the Bobcats to a .248 hitting percentage.

Texas State held its opponent to a negative .033 hitting percentage for the match in large part because of nine Bobcat blocks. Senior Amber Calhoun led the defensive charge at the net with four block assists and one solo stuff, while sophomore Ashlee Hilbun added three assists and one solo.

Freshman Laura Whalen made her second straight start at libero for the Bobcats and notched a match-high 10 digs for her ninth contest this season with double-digit saves.

The Bobcats will return to action next week with two more matches at Strahan Coliseum. Texas State welcomes Lamar on Thursday, September 29 for a 6:30 p.m. match before taking on McNeese State next Saturday, October 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets for both matches can be purchased through the Texas State Athletics Ticket Office.
