Game Notes

San Marcos, Texas
– The first-place Texas State men's basketball team will host UTSA tomorrow, Feb. 26 in the I-35 Rivalry Series game.  It is the featured Toyota Game of the Week on the Southland Conference Television Network with tip off at Strahan Coliseum slated for 2 p.m. The Bobcats have won nine straight games at home as they get ready to face the Roadrunners who are 2-4 on the road in league play. Texas State is tied for first-place in the league with a 9-4 record, while the Roadrunners are in a four-way tie for fifth overall with a 7-6 record. Please come early as it is Senior Day for Texas State and all six Bobcat seniors will be honored before tipoff.

Series: UTSA leads the series 30-20. Last time out, UTSA won 88-84 on January 22 in San Antonio. UTSA has not won in Strahan Coliseum since 2008.

 

Scouting Texas State

Texas State (14-13, 9-4 SLC) continued its win streak at home with an 82-69 victory over Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday night. Texas State came back from a 12-point deficit to capture the win. Texas State is led by team captains Cameron Johnson (13.3 ppg, 5.4 rpg) and Tony Bishop (12.2 ppg, 7.9 rpg); Texas State's top scorers and rebounders.  Bishop posted his team-leading eighth double-double as he spurted out 22 points to go along with 10 boards. The Bobcats are shooting 45 percent from the field and averaging 78.3 points per game. Texas State averages 82.7 points per game at home.

 

Scouting UTSA

UTSA (14-12, 7-6 SLC) is coming off a 71-62 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at home. The Roadrunners are 2-4 on the road in conference play this season with their last conference road win occurring on Jan. 19 in a 63-58 win over Northwestern State. The roadrunners are led by guard Devin Gibson who is averaging 16.2 ppg and 5.1 rpg. Melvin Johnson 111 and Jeromie Hill are also averaging in double figures with 14.0 and 13.2 points respectively. UTSA is averaging 69.2 points per game and 68.7 rebounds per game.

January 22, 2011 - San Antonio, Texas – In what lived up to all the hype in the classic I-35 Rivalry, Texas State came back from 17 points down in the second half to apply pressure to the Roadrunners, but fell short as UTSA escaped with the 88-84 victory tonight at the UTSA Convocation Center. The Bobcats drop to 7-11, 2-2 SLC, while the Roadrunners improve to 9-8, 3-2 SLC.

Eddie Rios led Texas State with 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Tony Bishop registered 17 points and six rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was Cameron Johnson with 16 points and Travis Jones with 15 points all from three-point range.
