Men's Hoops at Fordham Gallery
Bronx, N.Y. – Texas State (6-5) men's basketball fell to Fordham (5-6) tonight, 81-70, at Rose Hill Gym tonight. The Bobcats were led by Eddie Rios and Matt Staff who each scored 11 points apiece.
Fordham used its 17-point halftime lead to its advantage as it was able to beat the Bobcats tonight. Texas State narrowed the Rams lead down to nine points late in the game, but Fordham was able to come back.
Travis Jones and Rios made three-pointers late in the game to keep the Bobcats in it, but the Rams 40.6 percent shooting from the floor helped them earn the victory.
The Bobcats outscored the Rams, 43 to 37 in the second half, but it was the 52-39 edge that Fordham had on the boards that hurt Texas State tonight. Texas State finished 17-for-22 (77.3%) from the free throw line.
The Bobcats entered the half down, 44-27, after initially starting the game down, 8-0. Wesley Davis was fouled on a fastbreak layup attempt and made a free throw to cut the Rams' run.
The Bobcats made 8 of 33 shots in the first half, but were 11-for-13 (84.6%) from the charity stripe. For the second game in a row, Texas State failed to make a three-pointer in the first period.
Fordham was led by Chris Gaston who scored 35 points and 15 rebounds.
Texas State returns to San Marcos on Dec. 28 in a match-up against Huston-Tillotson. Tip-off is slated for approximately 7:30 p.m. in game two of the doubleheader. The Bobcats close out 2011 at the University of Houston in a game to be televised on CSS on Dec. 30 at 8 p.m.
