Edinburg, Texas
– Texas State fell to USC-Upstate, 82-74, today in its final game of the UTPA Tournament in Edinburg. The Bobcats finished the tournament, 1-2.

Eddie Rios led all scorers tonight with 21 points, in addition to four assists and three steals. Rios became the second Bobcat this season to cross the 20-point threshold. John Bowman added 11 points and Matt Staff registered 10 to round out the Bobcats' double digit scorers.

Texas State (3-2) edged USC-Upstate (3-2) on the scoreboard in the second half, but it wasn't enough to erase the nine-point halftime deficit. The Bobcats came within three points after a pair of free throws by Wesley Davis and a jumper by Gordon Ball made it 52-49 with 10:44 left to go in the game.

The Spartans retaliated with a 15-2 run that was capped by a Ricardo Glenn dunk. The Bobcats didn't give up however as they connected on a few buckets to cut the Spartan lead to seven. In the end, it wasn't enough and the Bobcats dropped their second game of the season.

The Bobcats scored a season-low 22 points in the first half. Rather than an up-tempo style of play that Bobcat fans are used to seeing, the first period was much slower. USC-Upstate had 31 points in the first half, but it was the 24 turnovers combined that made the period grueling.

A three-pointer by Basil Brown with two seconds left on the clock ended a four-minute scoring drought for the Bobcats. Texas State connected on nine field goals, and USC-Upstate had 12 to close out the first 20 minutes of play.

Texas State returns to the court on Sunday, November 27 against Northwestern Oklahoma. Tip-off at Strahan Coliseum is set for 4 p.m.
