San Marcos, Texas – Texas State will begin its journey for its seventh Southland Conference Tournament championship on Friday when the No. 1-seed Bobcats take on No. 8-seed Northwestern State at 4 p.m.at the Ferris Center in Conway, Ark.
Texas State wrapped up the conference's top seed last Saturday with a victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to secure its sixth Southland Conference regular season championship.
Texas State (24-7) enters the tournament as the top seed for the sixth time in the program's history after finishing the regular season on a 15-match Southland Conference winning streak. The Bobcats, who will make their 22nd conference tournament appearance, bring their 15-1 record in conference play into the tournament against Northwestern State (10-19, 6-10 SLC), which defeated Nicholls on the final day of the regular season to secure the final spot in the tournament field.
The three-day Southland Conference Tournament is single-elimination format and being hosted by Central Arkansas. The winner of the tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
With a first-round win, the Bobcats would face the winner of the No. 4 Central Arkansas and No. 5 Lamar match at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The SLC Tournament championship match will be on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Ticket prices for a day session are $10 for adults and $7 for students. Weekend passes are available for $15. Southland Conference students with a valid institutional I.D. will be admitted free of charge. Tickets are available for purchase at the Farris Center ticket office or online at www.ucasports.com.
All seven matches of the 2011 tournament will be streamed live and for free on SLC NOW at southland.org. The championship match will be televised by the Southland Conference Television Network to more than 20 markets in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas, plus worldwide on ESPN3.com.
