San Marcos, Texas – Following two weeks of road matches, the Texas State volleyball team will return to Strahan Coliseum this week for a pair of home matches on Wednesday and Saturday. The Bobcats will host their annual Bobcats Fight Against Breast Cancer match on Wednesday against UT Arlington before facing off against reigning Southland Conference regular season champion Central Arkansas on Saturday.

 

On Wednesday, Texas State's Bobcats Fight Against Breast Cancer match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Doors to Strahan Coliseum will open at 5 p.m. due to a silent auction taking place prior to and during the match with all proceeds going to the Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC). The auction will remain open until the third set of the match. Donations will also be accepted on behalf of CTMC throughout the match.

 

In addition, anyone wearing a pink shirt to Wednesday's match will receive free admission. Texas State Pink Out shirts will be available for purchase at the doors of Strahan Coliseum for $10.

 

On the court, Texas State will bring a 16-6 record and 7-1 mark in the Southland Conference into the match with UT Arlington (7-15, 3-5 SLC). The Bobcats have won seven consecutive matches dating back nearly a month to September 24 when the team swept Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Texas State sits in second place in the Southland Conference West Division behind the perfect 8-0 record of UTSA.

 

On Saturday, the Bobcats welcome Central Arkansas to Strahan Coliseum for the first time since 2009. The Sugar Bears began their week with a loss to Missouri on Monday to fall to 12-10 overall and will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Wednesday before making the trip to San Marcos. Central Arkansas currently leads the Southland Conference East Division with a 7-2 record in league play.

 

Tickets are available for all Texas State home matches through the Texas State Athletics Ticket Office and can be purchased in advance or at the doors of Strahan Coliseum.

Versus This Week's Opponents

Texas State will play UT Arlington for the second time in two weeks when the team's play on Wednesday. On Oct. 5, the Bobcats handed the Mavericks a 3-0 defeat behind a .341 team hitting percentage, 12 kills from Amari Deardorff and 10 kills from Lindy DeGeare. The win was the sixth for the Bobcats in the last seven meetings between the two teams. Texas State is 9-3 in its last 12 home games against UTA. The Mavericks won the first 21 games over the Bobcats, who have a 24-19 lead in the all-time series since that point.

 

Texas State and Central Arkansas will play for the sixth time ever on Saturday and the third time at Strahan Coliseum. The Bobcats are 1-1 at home against the Sugar Bears.

 

About The Streak

Texas State is riding a season-long seven-game winning streak entering Wednesday's match.

            • The Bobcats have eight streaks of at least seven wins since 2000.

            • The Bobcats have begun SLC play winning seven of their first eight games for the fourth time since 2000.

            • The Bobcats' streak is the longest since 2009 when the team won 13 consecutive matches.

The Texas State program is closing in on its 1,000th all-time win. Entering the week's action, the Bobcats are at 995 wins with an all-time record of 995-609-19.

 

RPI

Texas State has the second highest RPI in the Southland Conference in the first RPI report released on Monday. The Bobcats have an RPI of 113, trailing only UTSA's ranking of 91.

 

Record Books

Amber Calhoun recently reestablished herself in second place in career hitting percentage at .316. She is 15 points behind the career leader, Kacee Rogers, at .331. Amari Deardorff is currently fourth in single-season hitting percentage at .350. She is 42 points behind Rogers' record mark of .392 in 2004.

 

Bobcats Fight Against Breast Cancer

As part of Wednesday's match against UTA, Texas State is hosting Bobcats Fight Against Breast Cancer night. A silent auction will be held with all profits staying locally to benefit breast cancer patients at Central Texas Medical Center. Donations will be accepted throughout the game and anyone wearing a pink shirt will receive free admission to Strahan Coliseum.

 

National Rankings

As a team, Texas State not only leads the Southland Conference but ranks 12th in the nation in team hitting percentage at .270. The Bobcats also rank in the top-100 in the nation in aces per set (28th), kills per set (52nd), assists per set (70th) and blocks per set (96th).

 

Attendance Report

Texas State ranks 65th in NCAA Division I in attendance with an average of 800 fans per game in Strahan Coliseum. The Bobcats have the highest average attendance of any Southland Conference school.

 

10/17 Southland Players Of The Week Honorable Mention

Amber Calhoun was named a Southland Offensive Player of the Week Honorable Mention and Ashlee Hilbun was the same on the defensive side of the net for last week. Calhoun hit .500 while leading the team with 21 kills during the team's 2-0 week. The senior had 10 kills with a season-high .667 hitting percentage against Stephen F. Austin before putting down 11 kills with a .381 hitting percentage against Sam Houston State as the Bobcats handed the Bearkats their first loss at home this season. She led the team with 26.5 points scored for the week after she also averaged 1.50 blocks per set. Calhoun has now posted double-digit kills in 11 matches this season. Hilbun averaged 1.50 blocks per set after posting nine blocks in two matches last week. She had five blocks (two solo, three assists) in the team's win over Stephen F. Austin and posted four blocks (two solo, two assists) against Sam Houston State while also adding six digs. The sophomore increased her season solo block total to 20, while also increasing her season average to 1.13 blocks per set.
