Men’s Basketball Drops 83-66 Decision to UT Arlington on the Road

– Four Bobcats scored in double figures tonight, but it would not be enough as Texas State fell to UT Arlington on the road, 83-66. Hot shooting by the Mavericks gave them the edge over the Bobcats tonight at Texas Hall to hand the Bobcats their third loss in conference play. Texas State's overall record is now 8-12, 3-3 SLC, while UT Arlington improves to 10-9, 4-2 in league play.

Tony Bishop led the Bobcats with 13 points and 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season. Ryan White finished with 13 points and three assists, while John Bowman had 11 points and five boards and Cameron Johnson added 10 points and four rebounds.

Texas State started the second half with a few fast breaks in its favor to shift the momentum to maroon and gold. Dunks by J.B. Conley and Bishop along with some more baskets cut the Mavericks lead to 11 (40-51). UT Arlington continued to put a damper in the Bobcats rhythm as they were able to their sharp shooting from three-point range.

For the next 16 minutes Texas State and UT Arlington traded baskets back and forth. The Bobcats went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 51-64, but the Mavericks responded with a 6-0 run of its own to extend their lead back up to19 with 8:57 remaining in the game.

Texas State outscored UT Arlington 9-4 over the next four minutes with six of those points coming from Johnson. The Bobcats would not be able to trim the lead any further, as they dropped their third conference road game of the season.

The Bobcats saw themselves down 8-0 to start the game after the Mavericks went 3 of 4 from the floor. Texas State slowly chipped its way back into the game with the big men leading the offensive effort. Bishop led Texas State with nine points and six boards in the first half, while Matt Staff and Johnson added five points each.

Things got a little testy as both teams had a total of three technical fouls in the first half. Texas State's largest run of the half was five straight points, which occurred twice. UT Arlington was able to keep a lead on the Bobcats due to their nine made treys, three of which came from Bo Ingram to aid in his 13 first half points. UT Arlington took a 44-30 edge into intermission.

Texas State shot 39 percent from the field and 64 percent from the free throw line. UT Arlington finished 49 percent from the field and 70 percent from the charity stripe. The difference in the game came from three-point range where the Mavericks connected on 13 treys to the Bobcats two.

Bo Ingram led UT Arlington with 16 points and three rebounds. Shaqui White-Miller had 13 points, LaMarcus Reed had 12 and Cameron Carlett added 10 points.

Texas State returns home to Strahan Coliseum on Wednesday, February 2 to host Stephen F. Austin. The Bobcats will play the second game of the double header with the women's team hosting the Ladyjacks at 5:30 p.m. in the first game. Tip-off for the men's game is slated for approximately 7:30 p.m. Stephen F. Austin is 12-6, 3-3 in conference play. The Lumberjacks fell to UTSA 46-45 this afternoon in Nacogdoches in the SLC TV Game of the Week.
