Men’s Basketball: UT Arlington Preview

San Marcos, Texas – Texas State men's basketball will travel to UT Arlington on Saturday, January 29. Tip-off at Texas Hall is slated for 7 p.m. Both teams are 3-2 in conference play and are in a four-way tie for first place in the west division.

Coaches vs. Cancer

During Coaches vs. Cancer® Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend, Jan. 28-30, basketball coaches nationwide will wear sneakers with their suits to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society and its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Basketball fans are encouraged to also wear sneakers to games that weekend to show their support.

 

Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaborative initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

Scouting Texas State

Texas State (8-11, 3-2 SLC) knocked off Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Wednesday night, beating the Islanders, 73-62. Tony Bishop and Ryan White both scored 20 points apiece to lead Texas State. The Bobcats are led by team captains Cameron Johnson and Tony Bishop; Texas State's top scorers and rebounders.  The Bobcats are shooting 45 percent from the field and averaging 80.3 points per game.

 

Scouting UT Arlington

UT Arlington (9-9, 3-2 SLC) opened conference play with a loss to Nicholls, but has since gone 3-1 with a current win streak of two. UTA's most recent victory came in a 62-52 rout of Stephen F. Austin on Saturday. The Mavericks are led by LaMarcus Reed, who is averaging 13.4 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game. UTA as a team is averaging 69.4 points per outing. The Mavericks are shooting 73 percent from the charity stripe, but are being slightly out-rebounded by their opponents 35.7 to 35.9.

Flashback

January 30, 2010 - Despite three double-double performances and four players scoring in double figures, the Texas State men's basketball team missed some critical scoring opportunities down the stretch as the Bobcats fell 82-78 against UT Arlington.

Texas State was led by Cameron Johnson's 21 points and 11 rebounds, while John Rybak added 16 points and Ryan White scored 14 points and handed out a career-high 10 assists. In addition, Emmanuel Bidias A' Moute scored 10 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Bobcats.
