Volleyball Heads To Dallas For SMU Doubletree Invite

Texas State takes on UC Davis and SMU on Friday, Texas Tech on Saturday

Dallas, Texas –
The Texas State volleyball team returns to action on Friday when the Bobcats play UC Davis in the first match of the SMU Doubletree Invite. The match, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., will be the fourth of the season for the Bobcats after they began the season 2-1 last weekend at the Hofstra/Asics Invitational.

Scouting Texas State
The Bobcats started the season 2-1 last weekend after rebounding from a five-set loss to Missouri State to defeat Hofstra and Canisius. Freshman Madeline Gaffney earned Hofstra/Asics All-Tournament Teams honors after hitting .696 for the tournament and leading the team with 10 blocks. Texas State is competing in this tournament for the second consecutive year after going 2-1 in the invite last year.

The Aggies began the season at the Utah Classic last weekend, finishing 0-2 with losses to Utah and Utah
State. Opponents hit .278 against UC Davis in the tournament. Three players averaged 3.0 kills per set during the two-game stretch in Katie Denny, Kayla Varney and Allison Whitson.

SMU won all three of its matches at the Baylor Invite, defeating Butler, Baylor and Stephen F. Austin to start the season 3-0. The Mustangs, who are currently receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll, had three players earn Conference USA Player of the Week honors in Dana Powell, Kelli Becerra and Sidney Stewart.

Texas State takes on Texas Tech for the first time since sweeping the Red Raiders in front of a Strahan Coliseum record 2,389 fans a season ago. Texas Tech went 1-2 at the Rice Tournament last weekend, falling to Rice and Mississippi before winning its final match against UTSA. Amanda Dowdy led the Red Raiders with 3.8 kills per set and 2.1 digs per set to start the season.
