Final Stats

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Texas State (25-24, 20-10 SLC) softball fought off a Stephen F. Austin (28-18, 20-10 SLC) rally this afternoon to take the game 8-7 and earn a share of the Southland Conference Championship. The Bobcats are now the third SLC team to win three consecutive regular season titles.

McKenzie Baack and Chandler Hall both registered two hits apiece to lead Texas State.

Hall (17-13) received the win in the circle after pitching 6.2 innings and fanning seven batters. Elizabeth Dennis picked up the save, after tossing the game winning strike to seal the championship for the Bobcats.

Monika Covington (14-10) suffered the loss today for the Ladyjacks. Covington struck out three batters and walked four.

With two outs in the second inning, Texas State began to rally back against the odds. Allyce Rother hit a blooper to right center that landed right between the center and right fielder to score both Chandler Hall and Anna Hernandez to go up 2-0. Kristina Tello batted next and found an opening in left center to advance Rother home and push the Bobcats up by three.

Lindsay Matt led a Texas State surge to start the fifth with a single down the left field line. Texas State recorded five runs on five hits to extend its lead to 8-2. Leah Boatright drove in the first pair of runs, then Chandler Hall, Hernandez, and Kristina Tello knocked in the other three.

Stephen F. Austin stepped to the plate in the seventh inning to load the bases with zero outs. The Ladyjacks were able to tally five runs in the bottom of the seventh, but senior pitcher Elizabeth Dennis entered the game to strike out the last batter and give Texas State the victory.

Texas State recorded eight hits in the win this afternoon to win its fifth regular season title.
