Two Walk-Off Homers by SFA, sink Bobcats in Doubleheader Loss

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -Stephen F. Austin(28-17, 20-9 in the SLC) recorded a walk-off homer in both game one and two to sweep Texas State (24-24, 19-10 in the SLC) on day one. With the win today, SFA clinches at least a share of the Southland Conference crown.

Game 1

After six innings with no runs scored, Stephen F. Austin came away with a 3-1 win over Texas State after a walk-off homer by Kendal Harper in the ninth inning. Chandler Hall (16-13) suffered the loss for Texas State, allowing eight hits in 8.2 innings in the circle. Hall fanned a season-high 13 batters.

Monika Covington earned the win to improve her overall record to 14-9. Covington struck out seven batters and allowed five hits.

Leah Boatright got the game moving with a single to left field in the top of the fifth to record the first hit of the game. Next, Anna Hernandez registered a base hit to the shortstop, to put runners on first and second with one out.

Unfortunately, Texas State was unable to capitalize, ending the inning with zero runs scored. Kendal Harper earned the Ladyjacks first hit of the game on a single to third base in the sixth inning. Harper's hit was the only hit of the inning for SFA, as the game entered the seventh inning with a score of 0-0.

With a 0-2 count in the top of the seventh Jenna Emery belted the ball over the left center fence to give Texas State the 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the inning.

Ashley Struchtemeyer responded for SFA in the bottom of the seventh with a homer over the right center fence to tie the game at 1-All. A single by Karissa Jones advanced pinch runner Michele Huffman to third to put runners on the corners with one out. Next, Amber Price reached first after being hit by a pitch to load the bases for SFA. Hall kept her composure as the Bobcats got the last SFA batter out on a foul fly to the first baseman.

With a runner on first for SFA, Harper recorded a walk-off homerun to take game one over the Bobcats 3-1.

Game 2

Anna Hernandez scored the first game on the day, reaching home on a passed ball to put Texas State up 1-0 in the top of the first.

In the top of the third inning, Jenna Emery hit a RBI single to left field to advance McKenzie Baack home. Emery wasn't on base long as Leah Boatright singled up the middle to drive in Emery for the second run of the inning, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

A double by Struchtemeyer in the bottom of the third pushed a pair of Ladyjacks home to bring SFA to within one of the Bobcats.

A walk-off homer by Briana Bishop in the eighth inning sealed the win for Stephen F. Austin and earned the Ladyjacks at least a share of the SLC regular season crown.

Texas State was unable to score any runs after the third inning. The Bobcats finished the game with eight hits and three runs scored. Anne Marie Taylor was handed the loss, pitching 7.0 innings with four earned runs scored.

SFA registered four runs on seven hits. Angela White earned the win in the circle, striking out three batters.

Tomorrow's single game will begin at noon at SFA Ladyjack Softball Field. If Texas State wins the game, they will share the regular season crown with SFA. If the Ladyjacks win, they will capture the title outright.
