NORMAN, Okla. – Throwers for the Texas State men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Sooner Invite this afternoon held at John Jacobs Field in Norman, Okla. Winning the women’s javelin was Taylor Hubbard with a distance of 42.59 meters (139-09).

Kayla Smith recorded a mark of 12.84 meters (42-01.50) in the women’s shot put for a third place finish. Capturing fifth place in the women’s discus was Katy Hanie with a throw of 50.70 meters (166-04).

Katherine Bakke placed fourth in the women’s hammer throw after a distance of 45.18 meters (148-03). Smith was right behind her with a fifth place finish and a throw of 44.05 meters (144-06). Jalisa Hall grabbed seventh place after a throw of 37.47 meters (122-11).

For the men, Dan Schmidt registered a throw of 49.64 meters (162-03) in the discus to claim eighth place. Chaz Laijas had a mark of 43.78 meters (143-08).

Schmidt came back to capture fifth in the hammer with a throw of 51.52 meters (169-00). Laijas took sixth with a mark of 47.44 meters (155-08).

Next for Texas State is the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This year’s championships will be hosted by UT Arlington from May 14-16.
