Houston, Texas - The No. 25 Rice Owls held Texas State to just five hits and contrastingly put up an offensive attack the led to a 16-2 victory over the No. 29 Bobcats Tuesday afternoon at Reckling Park. The game, originally scheduled for Feb. 23, but was cancelled due to weather, was made up this afternoon.

Texas State fell to 28-15 overall with the loss, while Rice improved to 27-16 on the season.

The Bobcats put up a hit in each of the first three innings, but only one base runner managed to reach second base. The Owls took advantage of the slow start, belting a solo home run in the bottom of the first and scoring in all but one inning thereafter.

Rice held a 5-0 lead by the fourth and doubled the tally in the fifth inning, scoring five runs off four hits that included a two-run triple from Michael Fuda. The sophomore went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI and finished a home run shy of hitting the cycle.

Jared Rogers and staff helped maintain the edge on the mound, blanking the Bobcats from the fourth through sixth inning, until Jason Martinson ended the drought with a seventh-inning double to left center. With one out, Kyle Kubitza, who led Texas State with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, drove a base hit through the right side to plate Martinson.

The Bobcats final run of the afternoon came in the ninth when Chase McDowell allowed back-to-back singled and followed up with balls to walk fill in the diamond and walk in a run.

A two-run homer in the sixth and a solo shot in the eighth highlighted the Owls final scoring innings. All told, Rice tallied 17 hits to Texas State's seven. Rogers improved to 5-1 with the victory. Brian Borski was tagged with the loss for Texas State and fell to 1-7 on the season.

Texas State's next bout on the mound will be this weekend in a three-game Southland Conference series with McNeese State. First pitch at Cowboy Diamond, Friday night is set for 6:30 p.m.
