San Antonio, Texas - No. 30 Texas State belted three home runs and rapped out 13 hits, but UTSA fought hard until the last out to avoid the sweep, only to be caught off guard with Carson Smith's final pitch, and the Bobcats walked away with an 11-10 win Sunday afternoon in front of a season-high 444 fans at Roadrunner Field to complete the sweep over the Roadrunners in the I 35 Maroon vs. Orange Rivalry series.

Texas State improves to 28-14 overall and 18-6 in the Southland Conference. The victory marked the first time the Bobcats have swept the Roadrunners since 1997. UTSA fell to 14-27 and 5-19, respectively.

Leading 11-8 heading into the bottom of the eighth, Garret Carruth was one out away from closing out his second inning when a pair of walks and a base hit loaded the bases. A fly ball hit into shallow centerfield was lost in the sun, giving Daniel Rockett a two-run double to put the Roadrunners one-run away from tying the game.

Texas State went down in order in the top of the ninth and Carson Smith relieved Carruth in the bottom of the frame. Tyler Carpenter laced Smith's first pitch through the left side and the Bobcats were forced to work out of the hole. A sac bunt and a groundout looked to be trouble, shifting Carpenter to third base, but with a 2-2 count, Smith fanned Ryan Rummel to end the game.

Texas State scored early with Kyle Livingstone taking kindly to his new leadoff hitter role, belting a home run over the right center fence to open the game. Mitchell Pitts complemented the early attack, striking out two of four batters faced in the bottom of the frame for a nice start.

However, Texas State couldn't keep it going in the second and UTSA took advantage of the lull, sending five runs across on six hits to take a 5-1 lead. Ryan Dalton, Jeff Taliaferro and Tyler Carpenter all tapped Pitts for a double with the latter two bringing in runs.

The Bobcats fought back with a run in the third and two runs in the fourth to make it a one-run deficit, but UTSA answered right back with a double to open the inning and a trio of RBI singles to take an 8-4 lead.

Kyle Kubitza aided Texas State's comeback with a three-run shot to left center, putting the Bobcats just one-run away from tying the game and one inning later, Jason Martinson hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to make it 8-8.

Texas State continued to hold UTSA at the plate and went on to send three more runs across in the top of the seventh. Andrew Stumph hit a two-run homer in the frame and Vest tallied an RBI with a single down the right line.

Livingstone led Texas State with a 4-for-5 effort at the plate. UTSA recorded 19 hits, led by Ryan Hutson (4-for-4).

Jeff McVaney picked up his first win after a one-inning stint, allowing only two hits and holding UTSA scoreless. Smith earned his third save.

D.D. Towler (1-6) took the loss for the Roadrunners.

Texas State will return to the field Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they make up a postponed game at Reckling Park against the Rice Owls.
