Softball Trounces Northwestern State on Senior Day

SAN MARCOS, Texas- Texas State (24-22, 19-8 SLC) ended its regular season at home in winning fashion, as the Bobcats posted a 7-1 victory over Northwestern State (25-24, 12-15 SLC) today at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats honored its four seniors Leah Boatright, Elizabeth Dennis, Lacey Duncan and Kristina Tello in a post game presentation.

Northwestern State jumped out to a 1-0 lead to start the game after Ashlee England recorded a RBI single to center field in the first inning.

That would be the only run that the Lady Demons would score, as Texas State countered with four runs in the bottom of the first to go up 4-1. After beginning the inning with two outs, Haley Lemons and McKenzie Baack were both walked to put runners on first and second. Jenna Emery registered her fourth home run of the season when she hit a three-run homer to left field, followed by a solo homer by Leah Boatright to give the Bobcats four runs.

The Bobcats continued to put runs on the board when Emery recorded her fourth RBI of the day with a single to advance McKenzie Baack home. Texas State added two more runs in the fourth inning to secure a 7-1 lead and the eventual win.

Chandler Hall (16-12) earned the win in the circle, as the sophomore pitcher fanned five batters and walked three in 5.2 innings pitched.

Texas State batted .320 to Northwestern State's .240. Lindsay Matt was 2-for-2 from the plate, including a triple in the second inning. Emery finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run scored.

Texas State travels to Nacogdoches, Texas next weekend to face Stephen F. Austin in the last series of the regular season. Saturday's double header will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday's single game starts at noon. The Bobcats hold a one-game lead going into next weekend and need to capture two wins to earn the conference championship.
