Thibodaux, La. - The Texas State baseball team struggled at the plate and on the field, committing five errors and scoring just two runs against the Nicholls Colonels in Sunday's series finale, falling in a 6-2 decision to the foe at Ray E. Didier Field.

This is only the second Southland Conference series the Bobcats have dropped this season after falling in a 2-1 series to Southeastern Louisiana, April 16-18.

Tyler Minto worked tediously through nine innings for the Colonels and allowed two runs while scattering nine hits and striking out five batters. In his third complete game of the season, Minto retired 14 of his first 16 batters faced, holding the Bobcats scoreless through five.

Texas State (31-19, 21-9 SLC) committed a season-high five errors that resulted in three unearned runs for the Colonels (24-26, 13-17 SLC), the first of which coming in the bottom of the second as the ghosts of yesterday's game came back to haunt the Bobcats. A pair of base hits split by an infield error loaded the diamond for the Colonels, before starter Mitchell Pitts tossed a four-pitch walk to give the team its first run. The Colonels continued to score as a pair of RBI singles followed to give them a 3-0 edge.

Nicholls tacked on another run in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of back-to-back infield errors that put runners in scoring position with two outs. One at-bat later, a single into shallow center sent the unearned run across and Texas State trailed by four runs.

The Bobcats managed to score in the sixth with a lead-off double down from Tyler Sibley. The sophomore advanced on sacrifice bunt from Bret Atwood before scoring on an RBI groundout.

The final run came in the ninth on an RBI single by Laurn Randell, but NSU had already tacked on another scoring frame, a two-run seventh for its sixth run of the afternoon.

Texas State has not dropped a series to Nicholls since 2002, in Thibodaux, Louisiana, as well.

Pitts (5-1) was saddled with today's loss after a 6.1 inning stint. The sophomore allowed 11 hits and six runs, three of which were earned, while striking out four.

The Bobcats will return to the field Tuesday night when they play host to Prairie View A&M. The Southland Conference regular season wraps up next weekend with a three-game series at Bobcat Field against UT Arlington.
