FRISCO, Texas- Chandler Hall was named the 2010 Southland Conference Pitcher of the Year, announced today by the league office. The award is voted upon by the league's head coaches and sports information directors. Texas State placed three players on the all-conference teams this year. Hall, Leah Boatright, and Jenna Emery all received SLC honors.

Hall's pitcher of the year award is the fifth consecutive by a Texas State player and the seventh overall, the most among Southland teams. A native of Baytown, Texas, Hall makes a return appearance to the all-conference first-team. One of four players in conference history named pitcher of the year in two consecutive seasons, Hall tied for second in the league with 17 wins and 231 strikeouts. Appearing in a league-best 41 games, Hall started 32 games ranking second and led the Southland with 213.2 innings pitched.

"Chandler Hall is the best pitcher in this conference and I'm very happy to see that she is being recognized for it," said head coach Ricci Woodard. "She has struggled through the ups and downs of this season, but there is nobody that deserves this award more than she does."

Boatright, a native of Baytown, Texas, picked up her second all-conference nod. The senior earned honorable mention accolades last year, but this season she was not left off and picked up first team honors for the first time of her career. Boatright is having a stellar senior campaign, as she leads the team in batting average (.305), home runs (8), and RBI (39). She currently ranks second on the Texas State all-time career list with 24 home runs and third on the RBI list with 118. Boatright was named to the ESPN the Magazine All-Academic District VI team last week for her hard work in the classroom.

"I'm very proud of Leah for the job that she has done for us this year," said Woodard. "I couldn't be happier to see her get this well deserved honor! I knew she would be a great outfielder before it was all said and done."

Emery, another two-time all-conference selection makes her second straight appearance on the All-SLC second-team. Batting .278 with 32 hits, Emery has been a solid third baseman for the Bobcats. Emery has been hit by a pitch 21 times this season and is currently ranked sixth in the nation in hit by pitch per game. A veteran in the infield, Emery has recorded 63 putouts and 96 assists this season for a fielding percentage of .946.

"Jenna became a strong leader for the team this year, especially when it came to the infield," added Woodard. "I am glad she has been rewarded for the challenges she took on this season."

Freshman second baseman Anna Hernandez and junior designated player McKenzie Baack both received honorable mentions.

The 2010 Southland Conference Tournament is slated to get underway Thursday in San Marcos, Texas with game one starting at 11 a.m. The Bobcats are the No. 2 seed and will play at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of No. 3 UT Arlington and No. 6 Nicholls. The tournament fields a six-team double elimination format with the winner punching their ticket to the NCAA tournament.
