AUSTIN, Texas –The Texas State men’s and women’s relay teams performed well at the Texas Invite today at Mike A. Akers Stadium. All relays recorded season-best times to round out the Bobcat performances in slightly windy weather.
The Bobcat women raced to a time of 46.44 in the 4x100-meter relay, as the team of Jessica Thomas, Renee Shepard, Morgan Canty and Iris Darrington broke 47 seconds for the first time this season to capture fifth place.
The men’s 4x100-meter relay also improved its time, as the quartet of Aaron Jones, Stefon Hargrove, Timothy Young and Kevin Aje clocked a time of 40.45 second for fourth place.
Dana Dolejsi and Matt Novak both ran personal bests in the 1,500 meters. Dolejsi ran a time of 5:05.8 for the women and Novak ran 4:00.88 for the men.
Katie Miller led a trio of personal bests for the women in the 400-meter hurdles. Miller placed sixth in 1:02.28, Liat Anav was seventh with 1:02.30, and Jennie Thomas finished in eighth place in 1:20.60 seconds.
Gil Shelig swiped a second off his personal best in the men’s 400-meter hurdles running a time of 52.12 for sixth place in the event.
Steffanie Armstrong placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run, recording a time of 10:21.03.Andres Herrera finished in sixth place for the men after clocking a time of 8:34.52.
The women’s 4x400-meter relay team of Ryann Bradford, Anav, Miller and Thomas registered a season best time of 3:50.23; to shave two seconds off their previous best.
The vaulters for both the men and women performed well today at the Texas Invite. With a vault of 3.91 meters (12-10.00) Elena Horn earned a second place finish in the women’s pole vault. Landon Ferguson improved on his personal best in the pole vault by six inches, as the freshman registered a height of 4.97 meters (16-03.50) for sixth place.
Katy Hanie registered a season best mark of 49.16 meters (161-03) on her last throw of the day to take home a third place finish in the event. In the hammer
Katherine Bakke had a personal best throw of 47.10 meters (154-06) to improve on her previous best by over 13 feet.
In the women’s high jump Valerie Hancock tallied a height of 1.73 meters (5-08.00) in the long jump to place fourth.
Dan Schmidt recorded a fourth place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 54.51 meters (174-08).
Texas State will compete next at the Sooner Invite on May 8, in Norman, Okla.
