SAN MARCOS - The thirtieth-ranked Texas State baseball team continued its undefeated streak against Houston Baptist in convincing fashion, taking a 17-2 victory over the Huskies Tuesday night at Bobcat Field. Texas State improved to 25-14 overall, while HBU fell to 15-24.

Mitchell Pitts earned his fourth win of the season in his second-career start. The hurler threw a five-inning five-hit shutout in tonight's game with two strikeouts.

The Bobcats had no bite in their bats to begin the game, as they could not manage to plate any runs through two innings, but fortunately Texas State's defense accompanied Pitts' arm to hold off the Huskies.

Kyle Livingstone got the Bobcats on the board in the third with a sacrifice fly that brought in Clint Vest. A single to left field by Jeff McVaney immediately gave Texas State a 2-0 lead. HBU struggled on the mound and tossed a bases-loaded walk to bring in Livingstone. A wild pitch followed that brought in another run and Andrew Stumph followed up with a bases clearing triple, bringing the game to 6-0 in favor of the Bobcats. Daniel Neumann was able to drive in Stumph on a double, but was gunned down at third after trying to extend it to a triple.

With only two strikeouts through three innings, Pitts exhibited quick defensive reflexes, nabbing a ball that almost zoomed right past him to get the final out of the fourth. In the bottom of the inning, Jason Martinson notched a two-run double to extend the lead by eight runs.

In the bottom of the fifth, Randell belted his fourth home run of the season and brought the total to 12-0.

HBU finally broke through Texas State's relief in the sixth with a two-run single by Chase Hernandez.

Texas State wrapped up its hitting with five runs on a strong showing from the bench in the bottom of the eighth.

All but one Bobcat contributed a hit in Texas State's 18-hit victory. Vest and McVaney led the team with three hits.

The Bobcats return to the field Friday night when they open the I-35 Maroon vs. Orange Rivalry Series with UTSA. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
