Track and Field Competes at Trinity Classic

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition today at the Trinity Alumni Classic in San Antonio, Texas this afternoon.

Iris Darrington sprinted to her two fastest times of the season as the senior won the 100 and 200 meter crowns. Darrington posted a time of 11.93 in the 100m and 24.49 in the 200m.

Renee Shepard and Morgan Canty both recorded season-best times of 25.25 and 25.60 in the 200m, respectively.

The 4x100-meter relay team registered a time of 47.09 to drop almost a second off their previous best time.

The women captured five individual titles in the field events. Lisa Bingham won the high jump with a height of 1.70 meters (5-07-00). Elena Horn captured the pole vault title with a leap of 3.70 meters (12-01.50) and Asiya Iskakova bounded to a mark of 11.90m (39-00.50) to take the triple jump event.

Katy Hanie improved her discus mark by over three meters, winning the event with a distance of 46.61m (152-11), while Taylor Hubbard won the javelin throw with a mark of 38.7m (127-01).

Placing second in the men's 100 meters was Stefon Hargrove, who sprinted to a time of 10.70 for a season-best. Kevin Aje was third in the event in 10.70 seconds. Hargrove finished strong in the 200 meters, recording a time of 21.86 for fifth place.

Gerry Kammer continues to drop his 400-meter time, as he won the event in 48.38 seconds. Another runner improving his time is William Taudien, who placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 1:52.34.

Timothy Young cracked the 15 second barrier as he captured second place in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.89 seconds. Young came back to place third in the 400-meter hurdles in 53.87 seconds, while Gil Sheleg was second with 53.39 seconds.

The 4x100-meter relay clocked a time of 40.82 to win the event.

Logan Cunningham won the pole vault with a personal-best height of 5.05m (16-06.75). In the long jump, Collins Ekeocha recorded a leap of 7.01m (23-00.00) for fourth place, while Goldstein Okafor took third place in the triple jump with a bound of 14.63m (48-00.00).

Daniel Schmidt won two events and placed second in another this afternoon. Schmidt registered a distance of 13.89m (45-07.00) to win the shot put title and placed second in the discus with a throw of 47.12m (154-07). He also won the hammer throw with a mark of 55.09m (180-09).

Texas State returns to competition with the Mt. Sac Relays on April 15 and the Baylor Invite in April 17.
