Softball Sweeps Bearkats in Double Header

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State softball racked up a pair of wins this afternoon against Sam Houston State at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats beat the Bearkats 4-2 in the first game and 6-2 in the second game to improve to 7-11, 4-1 in the SLC, while holding SHSU winless in conference play so far this season.

Chandler Hall pitched her second complete game of the season fanning eight batters in the process. Texas State tacked on three runs in the first after two straight errors by the Bearkat defense. With runners on first and second, Hall recorded a sacrifice bunt advancing the runners a base.

Haley Lemons reached first base on a fielder's, while Tello squeezed home on the play and Anna Hernandez advanced to third. A two-run single by Jenna Emery pushed Hernandez and Lemons home on the play. Texas State scored all three of its runs in the inning with two outs in the game.

The Bobcats tacked on one more run in the fifth inning when an RBI double by Lemons sent Hall home. Texas State collected three hits and four runs in the game taking advantage of Bearkat defensive errors.

Game 2 - TXST 6, SHSU 2

A fourth inning rally by the Bobcats put them ahead of Sam Houston State and they never looked back.

Texas State was down by two with two outs to go in the fourth, when Jenna Emery led a four-run rally after singling to right field. Leah Boatright batted next finding an opening in right field to push Emery to third. Back-to-back singles by Megan Parten and Lindsay Matt to right center added two more runs to the Bobcats total. Kristina Tello added to the scoreboard, after she recorded a triple to right center, driving in both Parten and Matt. Texas State ended the inning on a pop up to second, but not before registering four runs and five hits.

Tello registered her second triple of the game when she rounded the bases, scoring both Matt and Boatright on the play.

Anne Marie Taylor earned her second win of the season allowing just one earned run in seven innings in the circle. Tello finished the game 2-for-4 from the plate, with both of her hits being triples.

Texas State returns to Bobcat Field tomorrow Sunday, March 7 at 12:00pm to play Sam Houston State in the final game of the series. The Bobcats will also host Baylor on Wednesday, March 10th at 6:00pm.
