Final Stats

Lake Charles, La. - - In a hard fought match that was ultimately decided by a tie-breaker in doubles play and two third-set singles matches, the Texas State women's tennis suffered their first road loss in Southland Conference play when the Bobcats fell 4-3 at McNeese State on Sunday afternoon.

The Bobcats and Cowgirls split the top two doubles matches as McNeese State's Ralista Pirdopska and Victoria Martinez defeated Andrea Giraldo and Melissa Hadad 8-4 in the number one match, and Gabriela Rojas and Mariana Perez defeated Petrathe Gudelj and Maria Frausto 8-6 in the second-seeded match. McNeese State captured the doubles team point when Ilona Serchenko and Kwynn Biggs defeated Kiki Kruse and Nyssa Peele 9-8 with the deciding point coming after Serchenko and Biggs won the tiebreaker 10-8.

In singles play, Texas State won three matches as Rojas won her third-seeded match over Martinez in three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. Perez defeated Frausto 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth seeded match, and Peele beat Inga Efimenko 6-1, 6-1 in the number-six match.

Pirdopska defeated Giraldo 6-1, 6-2 in the top match, and Serchenko beat Hadad 6-2, 6-2 in the number two mach. The final match between Kruse and Biggs was decided in three sets and featured two tiebreakers. Biggs won the opening set 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker 10-4. After Kruse won the second set 6-4, Biggs came back to win the third set 7-6 in another tiebreaker to clinch the victory for McNeese State.

The loss drops Texas State's overall record to 9-5 this season and the Bobcats are 5-2 in Southland Conference play. The Bobcats conclude the regular season with four straight matches at home. The homestand begins with a match against Stephen F. Austin on Friday, April 2 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bobcat Tennis Center. Texas State will play host to Sam Houston State on Saturday, April 3 at 10:00 a.m., Northwestern State on April 8 at 2:00 p.m. and Central Arkansas on April 10 at 10:00 a.m. McNeese State improves to 7-6 overall and the Cowgirls are 3-4 in Southland Conference play.
