Final Stats

Beaumont, Texas- - The Texas State women's tennis team began a two-game road trip with a 4-3 victory at Lamar on Saturday afternoon in a match that was decided by the Bobcats winning a double point.

The Bobcats opened the match winning two of the three doubles matches for the first team point in the dual match. Texas State's Andrea Giraldo and Melissa Hadad defeated Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Manjee Ashrafi 8-6 in the top doubles match to record their sixth victory as a doubles team this season. Giraldo and Hadad have a 6-7 overall record this season, and are 4-2 against SLC doubles teams.

Kiki Kruse and Nyssa Peele also teamed to defeat Manami Kuroda and Alessandra Pennesi, in the third-seeded match. They improved their season record to 7-3 as a doubles team this season.

Lamar's Kaltrina Harbuzi and Natalia Mayagoitia won the second-seeded match over Gabriela Rojas and Mariana Perez 8-0. Rojas and Perez fell to 6-5 overall this season, including 4-2 mark against SLC doubles teams.

In singles play, Rojas, Kruse and Peele won their matches to clinch the victory for Texas State. Rojas defeated Mayagoitia in the third-seeded match 6-4, 7-6 to improve her season record to 6-5.

Kruse owns an 8-2 record this season in singles play after winning her number-five match over Pennesi 6-1, 6-2.

Peele is 11-1 this season after she won her sixth-seeded match in three sets over Diana Mendez. She lost the first set 6-1, before coming back to win the final two sets 6-1, 6-1 to clinch the victory for the Bobcats.

The win improves Texas State's record to 9-4 overall as a team and the Bobcats are 5-1 in Southland Conference matches. The Bobcats also improved to 3-0 in Southland Conference road matches this season.

Texas State concludes its two-game road trip at McNeese State on Sunday, March 28, at 10:00 a.m. in Lake Charles.
