ARLINGTON, Texas - Texas State competed at the Bobby Lane Invitational today, hosted by UT Arlington. Elena Horn and Jennifer Matthews finished 1-2 in the women's pole vault. Horn won the event with a vault of 3.80 meters to tie the third best jump in school history. Matthews in her first meet back from last season recorded a height of 3.65 meters.
Logan Cunningham captured second place in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.70 meters. Landon Ferguson placed third with a vault of 4.55 meters.
In the women's high jump Valerie Hancock tied for fifth place with a height of 1.63 meters. Lisa Bingham finished eighth with the same height. Asiya Iskakova placed third in the triple jump with a bound of 11.95 meters.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Lathasha Maxwell, Renee Shepard, Morgan Canty and Iris Darrington placed eight in the relay with a time of 48.01.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Aaron Jones, Stefon Hargrove, Brandon Thomas and Kevin Aje also placed eighth in the event with a time of 41.24.
HOUSTON, Texas - While half of the team was competing at the Bobby Lane Invitational, the other half was at the Victor Lopez Invitational hosted by Rice University.
The bigger winner for Texas State was Michael Morris who captured the victory in the men's 3,000-meter steeple with a time of 9:24.14.
Maria Lopez clocked a time of 4:48.49 in the 1,500-meter run, while Steffanie Armstrong recorded a time of 4:50.20.
The men's and women's teams will be back in action next week at the Texas Relays. The Texas Relays begin on Wednesday, March 31 and conclude on Apr. 3.
