Hall Leads Softball to a Pair of Wins

HAMMOND, La. - Chandler Hall and the Texas State softball team earned two wins today against Southeastern La. at North Oak Park. The Bobcats blanked the Lady Lions 8-0 in the first game, then turned around and won the second game 5-4 in extra innings. Texas State improves to 16-13, 11-3 in the SLC.

Texas State jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings of play versus Southeastern La. The Bobcats scored one run in the first when Kristina Tello scored on a squeeze. Texas State then added two runs after a two-out double by Anna Hernandez in the second put Texas State up by three when both Tello and McKenzie Baack reached home.

Texas State added another run in the third when Baack doubled to left field, bringing in Jenna Emery.

A lead-off single by Haley Lemons in the fifth inning got things going for the Bobcats. After a groundout by Emery, the Bobcats tallied three straight hits with singles by Boatright, Baack and Rother. Lemons scored on the single by Baack, followed by a bases loaded walk by Shelby Carnline that advanced Boatright home.

Anna Hernandez was hit by a pitch with bases loaded in the seventh to bring in the Bobcats eighth and final run of the game.

Texas State hit .400 as a team, while SLU batted .160. The Bobcats outhit the Lady Lions 12 to four.

Chandler Hall (10-6) earned her 10th win and second shutout of the season. Hall fanned eight batters, while no SLU runner advanced past second base. McKenzie Baack finished the game 3-for-4, with three runs and two RBI.

Lindsay Matt scored the game-winning run in the eighth inning after an error by the SLU shortstop. Chandler Hall earned her second victory of the day after entering the circle in the fourth inning.

Southeastern La. gave up a bigger fight in game two, as the Lady Lions extended the game into extra innings.

Texas State jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the first inning. Anna Hernandez scored the first run of the game after an error by the catcher and then McKenzie Baack hit a sacrifice fly to left field, driving in Haley Lemons.

SLU changed the game when the Lady Lions scored their first run of the day after an illegal pitch by Anne Marie Taylor advanced Jordan Logan to third, before Logan scored on a single by Meghan Gomez. The Lady Lions added two more runs to take the lead after a Bobcat error and another illegal pitch by Taylor.

Hernandez and the Bobcats tied the game at 3-All in the third inning when Hernandez scored on a sacrifice fly by Leah Boatright.

The Lady Lions battled back in the fifth inning to break the tie when Katelyn Thomason hit a two-out double to right center, bringing in Meghan Duhe who reached base on a single.

Hernandez came up big for the Bobcats when she hit a solo homerun over the left field wall in the seventh to tie the game at 4-All. The homer was Hernandez's sixth of the season.

Texas State recorded five hits, while committing one error. Southeastern La. tallied eight hits, but committed three errors which proved costly.

Both teams will play a single game tomorrow at noon at North Oak Park to close out the three-game series.
