Bobcats Shut Down by No. 5 Horned Frogs

Ft. Worth, TX - The Texas State baseball team was held to just six hits Tuesday night, while the fifth-ranked TCU Horned Frogs doubled the tally and a took a 4-0 win over the Bobcats at Lupton Field.

 

The loss drops Texas State to 11-8 overall, while TCU improves to 16-4 on the season. The decision marks just the second time this season the Bobcats have been shutout after falling 5-0 to the Rice Owls.

 

Bobcat starter Brian Borski worked his way through a jam in the first inning with runners on second and third with two outs, but TCU broke through the wall in the second frame. Taylor Featherston doubled to right field and a base hit smoked past Kyle Kubitza at third base brought in the run.

 

The Horned Frogs went ahead 2-0 in the fourth with runners on the corners, and tacked on a single run in the next two innings that followed. An error with two outs in the sixth nearly cost the Bobcats, but Covey Morrow retired the inning on strikes.

 

Morrow went 1 1/3 innings in relief without allowing a run, marking his fifth-straight scoreless appearance in relief.

 

Borski was dealt the loss and falls to 1-4 on the season. The junior went five solid innings, yielding three runs to the fifth-ranked foe while striking out four.

 

Bret Atwood and Kyle Livingstone managed a pair of hits in the decision.

 

TCU hurlers Paul Gerrish and Trent Appleby combined for the shutout. Appleby earned his first save of the season, going the final 3 1/3 without allowing a single hit or run.

Texas State returns to Bobcat Field and Southland Conference action this weekend when they host the Lamar Cardinals for a three-game jaunt. First pitch Friday night is set for 6:30 p.m. Saturday's game will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday's finale is set for 1 p.m.
