Walk-Off Double by Hall Lifts Bobcats Past Islanders

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Despite 38 mile per hour winds, the Texas State softball team rallied for a 4-3 win over visiting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi today at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats improve to 12-12, 8-2 in the conference, while the Islanders drop to 18-9, 5-5 in the league.

Chandler Hall led a remarkable comeback today by Texas State in the circle and at the plate to give the Bobcats the victory.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi took a 1-0 lead when Meagan McKinney scored on an RBI double by Lauren Sanders in the top of the third.

Texas State had runners on the corners with no outs in the bottom of the third, but could not capitalize closing out the inning with zero runs scored.

The Islanders were able to tack on two more runs in the fifth inning. Cassie Redman beat out the play at home, followed by an RBI double by Margo Hurdt to give AMCC a 3-0 edge.

Even though the Bobcats were down by three, giving up was not an option. Haley Lemons and Jenna Emery registered back-to-back singles in the bottom of the sixth, followed by a walk by McKenzie Baack to load the bases with two outs. Next up to bat was senior right fielder Leah Boatright, who hit a double to center field to drive in all three runners to tie the game at 3-All.

After being pulled in the fifth inning, Chandler Hall returned to the circle in the sixth with the bases loaded and one out. Hall showed her poise on the mound as the sophomore threw the lead runner out at home, followed by a strikeout to close out the inning.

Texas State had two outs in the seventh when AMCC's Elena Crabtree walked Anna Hernandez. Hall stepped to the plate next recording a walk-off double to give Texas State the come from behind victory.

Hall fanned five batters in five innings of work. Today's victory gave Hall her eighth win of the season. Boatright finished the game 3-for-3, with three RBI.

Both teams will close out the three-game series tomorrow, March 21 in a double header beginning at noon.
