Softball Splits Double Header with McNeese State

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Texas State made a comeback versus McNeese State this afternoon at the Cowgirl Diamond in Lake Charles, La. to split the double header with the Cowgirls. McNeese State won the first game 3-1, but Texas State battled back to win the second game 5-1. The Bobcats are 10-12, 6-2 in the SLC, while the Cowgirls hold a record of 15-12, 5-3 in the SLC.

Texas State played solid defense all afternoon, as they kept McNeese State at arm's length. But in the fifth inning McNeese State's Claire Terracina hit a leadoff double to center field to spark the Cowgirl offense. After a pop up to the catcher, Lindsey Langner drove in Terracina after an error by the left fielder allowed room for Terracina to score at the plate giving McNeese Stat the first run of the game. In the sixth inning with two outs, Marissa Koetting hit a two-run homer to right field to extend the Cowgirls lead to 3-0.

The Bobcats weren't done yet. Jenna Emery, with a 3-2 count, hit a solo homer 10 feet past the center field wall in the seventh. Unfortunately, it was the Bobcats only run of the game, as they fell 3-1 to McNeese in the first game of the double header.

Chandler Hall took the loss for the Bobcats in game one dropping her record to 6-6. Hall served up four strikeouts, while walking zero batters.

Texas State went on a hitting spree in the fifth inning, as McNeese State went through three pitchers in the game, trying to figure out how to stop the Bobcats.

Shelby Carnline walked to start the inning and was on first base when Anna Hernandez stepped to the plate and hit a two-run homer to left field. The home run was Hernandez's fifth of the season and third in conference play.

Texas State kept the hitting going as Chandler Hall doubled to right center, followed by a single by Haley Lemons. With runners on first and third McKenzie Baack walked to load the bases. Allison Snow singled to left field to bring in the third run, and then Megan Parten was hit by pitch to draw in the fourth run of the inning. Carnline batted for the second time in the fifth inning and tallied an RBI single, scoring Jenna Emery for the Bobcats final run of the inning.

McNeese State managed to score one run in the bottom of the fifth, but Texas State held the Cowgirls off to take the game 5-1, going into the final game of the series tomorrow.

Anne Marie Taylor won her third game of the season as she fanned five batters in route to her third straight win in the circle.

Texas State will play McNeese State tomorrow at 12:00pm in the final game at the Cowgirl Diamond.
