Texas State Names Slade Nagle Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach

Feb. 8, 2010

San Marcos, Texas- - When Texas State head football coach Brad Wright began looking for a new offensive co-coordinator and quarterbacks coach, his goal was to find someone who could step in and help run the record-setting offensive system that the Bobcats already had in place.

Not only did he accomplish that goal when he named Slade Nagle to the position, he also found a person he had coached against and who was a former standout player and offensive coach with Southland Conference ties.

"We are very happy to have Slade join our staff," Wright said. "He is a person who has been there and done that as a player and coach in the Southland Conference. He has begun handling the transition of learning our offense and has a couple of ideas on how we might fine tune some of the things we do."

Nagle comes to Texas State after serving one season on the coaching staff at LSU and the three previous seasons as an assistant coach at Northwestern State. While at Northwestern State, he served as an offensive coordinator his last season after coaching quarterbacks and calling offensive plays from the press box the previous year. He rejoined the Demons' staff in 2006 as a receivers coach after serving as a quarterbacks coach at Dodge City Community College. His first stint at Northwestern State came in 2002 and 2003, and the Demons reached the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs in 2002.

Nagle began his coaching career after establishing himself as one of the top passers in McNeese State's history. He led the Cowboys to the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs in each of the final two seasons as a starting quarterback. He ended his career with 4,596 yards and 35 touchdowns in three seasons after transferring from Clemson. He set McNeese State's career record with a completion percentage of 57.8 percent (378-653) of his passes. He also led the Southland Conference with a 56.8 completion percentage, 16 touchdown passes and 2,222 yards passing in 2000. As a senior, he led the Cowboys to a Southland Conference championship and threw for a single-game, career-best 331 yards against Northwestern State.

Nagle played at Barbe High School in Lake Charles, La., where he earned All-American honors after setting school records of 4,359 yards and 39 touchdowns before signing with Clemson.

In his first year at Texas State, Slade will be coaching four quarterbacks returning from last season's roster in sophomore Tim Hawkins, redshirt freshman Eric Soza, junior Alvaro Garcia and senior Brian Hill. Texas State also signed one of the top high school quarterbacks in the nation with the addition of Tyler Arndt from Cuero High School on Feb. 3.

"His experience as a player and coach will help our players elevate their play," Wright concluded.
