Women's Tennis Defeats Nicholls 4-3

San Marcos, Texas - The Texas State women's tennis team won four singles matches to post a 4-3 victory over Nicholls in the first Southland Conference match for the Bobcats in 2010.

Senior Andrea Giraldo led the way with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory over Florina Nosca in the top singles match. Gabriela Rojas defeated S. Kalvanasundarm 6-4, 6-7 and 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match, while Kiki Kruse and Nyssa Peele won their matches in straight sets. Kruse won the No. 5 singles match 6-2, 6-0 over Tatiana Denezhkina, while Peele defeated Melissa Harrison 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 6 match.

Nicholls posted two wins in singles play and won the doubles point for their three team points. Natalie Zamora defeated Melissa Hadad 6-3, 7-6 in the No. 2 match, while Sania Stanojcic defeated Mariana Perez 6-1, 7-5 in the No. 4 match.

In doubles action, Perez and Rojas teamed to beat Kalvanasundarm and Zamora 8-3 in the No. 2 doubles match. In the top doubles match, Denezhkina and Nosca defeated Giraldo and Hadad 8-4 in the top double match, while Melissa Harrison and Sania Stanojcic defeated Kruse and Peele 8-3 in the No.3 doubles match.

With the victory Texas State improved its overall record to 5-2 and its Southland Conference record to 1-0, while Nicholls fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in SLC matches.

Texas State continues its homestand on Sunday, Feb. 28, when the Bobcats play host to Southeastern Louisiana at the Bobcat Tennis Complex. The match begins at noon.
