Rough Day for Softball, Drop Two at Embassy Suites Invitational

TULSA, Okla. - Texas State softball hit a rough patch today as it suffered two losses today at the Embassy Suites Invitational in Tulsa, Okla. at the Hardesty Sports Complex. Tulsa beat the Bobcats in extra innings in the first game, 5-4, and then Texas State fell to Eastern Illinois, 4-1. Texas State drops to 3-9 on the season.

Walk-off single by Tulsa in the eighth inning sends the Hurricanes past Texas State 5-4 this afternoon in the Bobcats first of two games. The Hurricanes had runners on second and third when Skylar Swanson hit a single to left field to drive in the go ahead run.

Tulsa managed to score three runs in the bottom of the seventh to push the game to extra innings. Caitlin Everett hit a double to left field, which made way for the Hurricanes to gain some momentum and come back to tie the game at 4-All.

The Bobcats had a 4-1 lead heading into the seventh inning. Chandler Hall hit a single down the right field line to record two RBI and give the Bobcats two runs. Kristina Tello tripled to left field, advancing Allison Snow to the plate. Tello scored on a passed ball to put the Bobcats up by two.

Hall recorded the loss for the day dropping her record to 3-4. She fanned eight batters, allowing four earned runs in the game. Texas State had four runs on seven hits, with zero errors.

Leah Boatright went 2-for-3 from the plate against Eastern Illinois scoring the Bobcats only run in the second inning.

EIU responded in the bottom of the second scoring three runs and then tallied on one more run in the third to go up, 4-1.

Elizabeth Dennis was the pitcher on record, dropping her record on the mound to, 0-2. Dennis allowed four hits and four runs in 3.0 innings of work.

Both teams tallied four hits, while the Bobcats had two errors to EIU's three.

Texas State will close out the tournament tomorrow, with a 10:00am game versus Creighton. Creighton leads the all-time series, 6-3. The Bluejays won the last game, 4-0 in 2008.

The Bobcats return home next week as they host UT Arlington at Bobcat Field in mid-week action. Texas State and UTA will play a double header on Tuesday, March 3 beginning at 4:00pm, and will return to Bobcat Field at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 3.
