Tempe, Az. - No. 5 Arizona State rallied past Texas State in the sixth inning to beat the Bobcats 6-3 tonight in the Littlewood Classic in Tempe, Az. The Bobcats fall to 2-7 overall, with one game left in the tournament.
Texas State struck first as it took a 1-0 lead in the third inning after Haley Lemons hit a single to right field, giving room for Megan Parten to score at the plate.
Arizona State responded with two runs in the fourth inning, after Lacy Goodman doubled to right center, driving in two Sun Devils.
The Bobcats kept their bats swinging as they came back in the fourth to tie it up after Anna Hernandez reached second base hitting a double down the left field line and moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Leah Boatright. Hernandez wasn't the only one with the hot bat as Jenna Emery singled up the middle next providing room for Hernandez to score at home and tie the game at 2-All.
Both teams were held scoreless in the fifth inning, before Arizona State piled up four runs in the sixth to take a 6-2 edge over the Bobcats. Texas State was able to tally one more run in the sixth, but came up empty in the seventh falling to Arizona State, 6-3.
Texas State tallied three runs and six hits, while committing three errors in the game. Arizona State recorded seven hits, six runs and one error on the day.
Texas State will close out the Littlewood Classic tomorrow Sunday, Feb. 21 versus Illinois State at 11:00am.
