Tempe, Az. - Texas State dropped its second game of the Littlewood Classic, 10-4, to Illinois State this afternoon. The Bobcats fall to, 1-6 overall, with three games left in the classic.
Illinois State took an early lead on the Bobcats after scoring two three-run homers in the third to go up, 6-0. The Bobcats didn't give up, getting things going in the sixth.
Texas State came together for a four-run fourth inning, after Leah Boatright led things off with a single to left field. With one out, back-to-back singles to left field by McKenzie Baack and Jenna Emery landed two runners on base and Boatright scoring at the plate. An RBI single by Kristina Tello down the left field line drove in Baack. Lindsay Matt joined in on the Bobcats hitting spree, tallying an RBI single as Emery scored at the plate and Tello scoring on the throw. Texas State racked up four runs on five hits to come to within two of the Redbirds.
The Bobcats were held hitless for the rest of the game and were unable to come away with the win, as they fall to 1-6 on the year.
Anne Marie Taylor (0-2) gave up two earned runs in 16 batters faced, after 2.2 innings of work. Texas State registered four runs and eight hits, with two errors on the day.
Illinois State improves to, 3-2, after collecting 10 runs on 11 hits, with one error.
Texas State has three games left in the Littlewood Classic. The Bobcats will play two games tomorrow, Feb. 20. The first game will be at 10:30am versus Rutgers, followed by a 6:00pm game versus Arizona State. Texas State will close out the tournament on Sunday, Feb. 21 versus Illinois State at 11:00am.
