SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Texas State softball team hit a road block this afternoon as they dropped games to Oklahoma State, 10-1 and New Mexico, 8-0, after winning its season opener last night versus Northern Illinois. Texas State's record falls to 1-2 in its first weekend of play.
Chandler Hall (1-1) opened up the day on the mound versus Oklahoma State, but back-to-back home runs by Oklahoma State put the Cowgirls up 4-0 on the Bobcats.
Haley Lemons recorded the Bobcats only hit of the game, with a clean shot to left field in the fourth inning. Unfortunately, Texas State was not able to collect any more hits in the game falling to the Cowgirls, 10-0.
Oklahoma State was led by pitcher Anna Whiddon (2-0), who allowed one hit in 5.0 innings on the mound. Alysia Hamilton was 2-for-3 from the plate, including two home runs and five RBI.
Freshman pitcher Anne Marie Taylor made her collegiate debut on the mound for the Bobcats pitching 4.0 innings. Taylor had a rough start with six earned runs in 20 batters faced today.
The Bobcats offense came alive versus the Lobos in the third inning, as they registered four hits in the game. Lemons finished the game 2-for-2, with a single and a double.
Hall led off the third with a single to right center. Kristina Tello reached base on a fielder's choice, followed by a double by Lemons leaving Texas State with runners on second and third. Texas State grounded and fouled out on the next two plays ending the inning.
New Mexico pitcher Kari Gutierrez (1-0) pitched the Lobos to a 8-0 win over the Bobcats in game two. Gutierrez allowed four hits in 5.0 innings. Stefanie Carramusa was 2-for-2 in the game, tallying five RBI for the Cowgirls.
Texas State will play two games tomorrow to close out the tournament. The Bobcats host Oklahoma State and UT Arlington in back-to-back games starting at 11:30am.
