SAN MARCOS, Texas - Sophomore pitcher Chandler Hall posted her first shutout of the season, leading the Texas State softball team to a 3-0 win over Northern Illinois on Friday night at Bobcat Field in its season opener.
Hall (1-0) allowed four hits in the game, while retiring eight at the plate and walking two in her season debut.
Freshman Anna Hernandez recorded a two-out single in the bottom of the fourth, driving in Jenna Emery from third base to score the game-winning run.
Senior Leah Boatright added to the Bobcats score after she hit a single down the left line, driving in Kristina Tello on the play to give Texas State a 2-0 lead after the fifth.
Texas State scored its final run of the game after sophomore Megan Parten laid down a sacrifice bunt, with Brooke Baker scoring on the play.
The Bobcats tallied six hits from six different players in the game off NIU pitcher Monica Segura (0-1).
Texas State will continue play in the CenturyLink Softball Classic tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 13. The Bobcats play Oklahoma State at 2:30pm, followed by a match-up with New Mexico.
On Sunday, February 14 Texas State will play two games to close out the tournament. The Bobcats host Oklahoma State and UT Arlington in back-to-back games starting at 11:30am.
