Season High 11 Aces Propels Bobcats To Sweep Of Southeastern Louisiana

The Texas State volleyball team made quick work of Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday, using a season-high 11 aces to help the team to its fastest victory of the season in an hour and 14 minutes. Fourteen different Bobcats contributed to the 3-0 victory as the team won by scores of 25-18, 25-9, 25-18.

The Bobcats improved to 17-11 overall and 10-4 in the Southland Conference after winning their sixth consecutive match at Strahan Coliseum. Southeastern Louisiana lost its 12th consecutive SLC contest in dropping to 10-21 overall and 1-13 in conference play.

The match was highlighted by a flurry of aces in the second set for Texas State. Freshman Preslie Alexander began the onslaught with back-to-back aces early in the set to put the team in front, 4-1. Two servers later, Amari Deardorff added a pair of aces before Rachel Doyle recorded four aces on her serve to give the Bobcats a season-high eight aces in the second set alone.

The balanced Bobcat offense was efficient from start to finish as the team posted a .269 hitting percentage for the match. Deardorff led the way individually, tallying 11 kills and a .588 hitting percentage to accompany her three aces. Eleven different Bobcats had at least one kill and five different players hit at least .300 for the contest.

Setter Caleigh McCorquodale finished with her team leading ninth double-double of the season after leading the team in both assists (25) and digs (10). Doyle had a career-best nine digs in two sets of action, and Deardorff also posted a career high defensively with seven digs.

For the match, Texas State held advantages in kills (39-22), hitting percentage (.269-.098), aces (11-1) and digs (43-34). Both teams finished with 5.0 blocks.

The Bobcats now await a matchup against SLC-leading UTSA, which is set to take place at 6:30 p.m. at Strahan Coliseum on November 11. Tickets for the match can be purchased in advance at txstatebobcats.com or at the door.
