Scouting Texas State (19-11, 12-4 SLC)
The Bobcats enter the Southland Conference Tournament on a five-match winning streak after most recently defeating UTSA and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a pair of matches at Strahan Coliseum. Texas State has won nine of its last 11 matches heading into the weekend.
Three Bobcats were recently named to All-Southland Conference teams as senior AJ Watlington and freshman Amari Deardorff earned All-SLC First Team honors, and junior Amber Calhoun was named to the All-SLC Second Team. Watlington and Deardorff rank first and second, respectively, on the team in kills, while Calhoun is the team leader for both hitting percentage and blocks.
Scouting Lamar (12-15, 8-8 SLC)
Head Coach: Justin Gibert
Conference: Southland
All-Time Series: Texas State leads, 38-33
Last Meeting: Lamar won, 3-2 (9/30/10)
The Bobcats will have the opportunity to avenge a loss against Lamar earlier in the season. Lamar won a five-setter in Beaumont after SLC Newcomer of the Year Tina Hobbs posted 21 kills and All-SLC First Team selection Jayme Bazile added 13 kills and five blocks. The teams traded sets before the Lady Cardinals outlasted Texas State to win the deciding set, 17-15.
Lamar enters the tournament having lost three of its last four and seven of its last 11 matches. Most recently, the Lady Cardinals fell to tournament-host Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin in a pair of matches last weekend to even their record at 8-8 in the conference entering the tournament. Lamar, one of the top serving teams in the conference with a 1.58 aces per set average, earned the No. 6 seed in the tournament.
