HOUSTON, Texas - Texas State men's and women's track and field finished competition today at the Houston Indoor Invitational at Yeoman Fieldhouse tonight. Ben Marvin was the top finisher for the Bobcats as he won the men's heptathlon with 4,789 points, for the fourth best point total in school history.
Marvin was in third place after day one of the heptathlon, returning to the meet today to win his first heptathlon this season. Teammate Brett Berry finished in seventh place with 4,308 points.
Texas State had three men place in the Top 5 in the pole vault. Dmitri Kabakov led the way earning silver after a vault of 4.75m (15-07.00). Landon Ferguson grabbed third place with the same height. Logan Cunningham finished in fifth place with a vault of 4.60m (15-01.00).
Timothy Young registered a fifth place finish in the 60-meter hurdle finals with a time if 8.23. Sprinter Aaron Jones clocked a time of 6.94 in the 60-meter dash finals. In the 800 meters, Jack Petersen ran a time of 1:59.53 for tenth place.
Goldstein Okafor had a mark of 14.74m (48-04.50) on his last jump in the triple jump to claim third place.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Justin Longoria, Gil Sheleg, Dijan Johnson and Jack Petersen placed tenth with a time of 3:24.84.
For the women, Valerie Hancock claimed third place in the high jump after recording a height of 1.75m (5-08.75). Katie Evans was fourth with a height of 1.70m (5-07.00). Lisa Bingham finished in eighth place after recording a height of 1.65m (5-05.00).
Heather Bullin finished in eighth place in the 3,000 meters finishing in a time of 10:19.56. Renee Shepard recorded a time of 26.26 in the 200 meters.
The team will split up next week as half the team will head to New Mexico for the UNM Combined Events meet, while the other half will compete at the Houston All-Comers meet.
