Men's Basketball Beats Lamar 97-92 in Overtime

Beaumont, Texas- - Cameron Johnson scored 24 points and grabbed a career-best 15 rebounds to lead the Texas State men's basketball team to a 97-92 overtime victory at Lamar in the Montagne Center on Saturday night.

Johnson was one of two players to record a double-double for the Bobcats as Emmanuel Bidias A' Moute scored 10 points and pulled down a career-best 17 rebounds for the Bobcats. In addition, John Bowman scored 15 points, J.B. Conley scored 14 points, while Dylan Hale netted 11 points and Ryan White added 10.

Bowman also led the Bobcats with six assists and White handed out five assists for Texas State, who improved its record to 9-10 overall this season and 3-2 in Southland Conference play. The victory is Texas State's second road win of the season, and both wins are in Southland Conference play.

Kendrick Harris led Lamar with 22 points and seven assists, while Anthony Miles added 21 points and seven assists as well. Justin Nabors scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Lawrence Nwevo scored 15 points and led the Cardinals with 12 rebounds.

Texas State jumped out to an early 17-4 lead with 14:56 left in the opening period as the Bobcats pounded the ball inside to Johnson and Bidias A' Moute before J. B. Conley nailed a three-point basket.

The Cardinals slowly climbed back into contention and took a 31-30 lead when Justin Nabors made a pair of free throws. Nabors also made a lay-up on Lamar's next possession to give the Cardinals 34-31 lead with 3:02 left to play in the half.

But, the Bobcats came right back to take a two-point lead when Bowman nailed a jumper from the left baseline and Uriel Segura scored his only three points of the night to give Texas State a 36-34 lead.

The Bobcats went into the intermission with 36-35 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Lamar came out and used the same strategy with which Texas State began the game as the Cardinals started either passing the ball inside to their post men or driving to the basket for easy shots.

The Cardinals led 68-57 when Dylan Hale came off the bench to nail two consecutive three-point baskets. Then, Bowman made another three-point shot from the left baseline corner to pull Texas State back to within 68-66 with 8:09 left to play.

Lamar led 79-75 with 4:25 left to play before Tony Bishop made one of his two free throws on two consecutive possessions and Hale added a lay-up off a steal to pull the Bobcats to within one.

The two teams fought back and forth the rest of the period until with 18 seconds left, Johnson made his second of two free throws to tie the score for the eighth time and send the game into overtime.

The Bobcats took the lead for good with 2:28 left in the overtime period when White made a jumper from the free throw line. Then, John Rybak stole a pass by Charlie Harper and drove down the court for a lay-up. Rybak stole the ball again and hit Bidias A' Moute and he was fouled on a lay-up attempt. Bidias A' Moute made one of his two free throws and Rybak made four consecutive free throws to clinch the win for the Bobcats.
