San Marcos, Texas- - In a game that featured 18 lead changes and 14 ties, Cameron Johnson scored a career-high 34 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked a last-second three-point attempt to lead the Texas State men's basketball team to a 76-74 victory over Central Arkansas in Strahan Coliseum on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Johnson was one of three Bobcats to score in double figures as John Bowman netted 15 points and Ryan White tallied 11 points and a game-high five assists as Texas State improved to 8-9 overall and 2-1 in Southland Conference play.

Chris Poellnitz scored 17 points, Imad Qahwash added 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Mitch Rueter netted 10 points for the Bears. Central Arkansas fell to 6-11 overall and 0-3 against SLC teams.

Johnson scored five of his points in the final 1:27 of the game. Texas State trailed 72-71 with 1:27 left to play when he scored on a three-point play with a lay-up and free throw to give the Bobcats the lead.

After Tadre Sheppard made two free throws to tie the score 74-74 with 48 seconds left to play. Johnson came right back to make a lay-up to give the Bobcats a two-point lead with 23 seconds left.

J.B. Conley stole the ball from Poellnitz on UCA's next possession and was fouled with six seconds left. But, he missed both of his free throw attempts. The Bears grabbed the rebounds and immediately called timeout with four seconds left.

UCA worked the ball up the right sideline to Jared Rehmel, who threw up a three-point shot. But, Johnson came out from the lane and blocked the shot to preserve the victory.

Following Saturday's victory, Texas State begins a two-game road trip at Sam Houston State on Wednesday, Jan. 20 and at Lamar on Saturday, Jan. 23.
