Volleyball Upended by Austin Peay in 3-2 Loss

MARQUETTE, Wisc. - Texas State battled Austin Peay to a five set upset this afternoon at the Marquette Invitational being held at the Al McGuire Center in Milwaukee, Wisc. The Bobcats fell 3-2 (13-25, 28-26, 15-25, 25-21, 10-15), to drop their overall record to, 1-5.

Junior right side hitter Melinda Cave led all Bobcats with 13 kills, registering her second straight double-double as she also tallied 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Jessica Weynand recorded 12 kills and 19 digs as she also recorded her second straight double-double.

The Bobcats had somewhat of an up and down afternoon today. The first set started out slow for Texas State. They were down 3-0, before eventually dropping the set 13-25. They recovered in the second to pull out a 28-26 win; they fell in the third 15-25.

The fourth set was more promising as they grabbed a 25-21 advantage forcing Austin Peay to a fifth and final set. Texas State and Austin Peay tallied four ties, before Austin Peay took the lead and won the set 15-10 taking the match.

Texas State will hit the court again at 5:30pm when they play Butler University in its last game of the Marquette Invitational.

The Bobcats host the CenturyTel Premier on Friday, Sept. 11 -12. Texas State will face Hofstra, Texas Southern and Texas A&M over the course of the two-day tournament.
