SAN MARCOS, Texas - In front of a record setting home crowd of 2,389 fans the Texas State volleyball team beat visiting Texas Tech, 3-0. Jessica Weynand led all Bobcats with 14 kills, while Mo Middleton had 13. Brittany Collins recorded her fourth straight match of 10+ assists, with 30 tonight.

"The atmosphere in here tonight was amazing. We beat a Big 12 team, Texas Tech, and we couldn't have done it without you (the fans)," said head coach Karen Chisum.

The Bobcats took the first set 25-23. Weynand led the way with five in that set. After going point for point with the Red Raiders, the Bobcats took a 24-23 lead after an ace by Weynand. A Texas Tech service error ended the set and gave the Bobcats a 1-0 lead into the second set.

With the set tied at 23-All in the second a kill by AJ Watlington gave Texas State a one point edge. The Red Raiders battled back to tie the set at 24-All, but after a Middleton kill and an attack error by Tech the Bobcats won the set 26-24. The third set was much of the same, with adrenaline running on both sides of the net. Middleton recorded her 13th and final kill of the match when she pounded one down to the left side to give the Bobcats their first win of the season.

"With the crowd really getting into the game it really helped us gain momentum," said Middleton.

The new coliseum record of 2,389 fans surpassed the old record by 500 set in 2005. Texas State hits the road this weekend, Sept. 4-5, for the second tournament in two weeks as they travel to Marquette, Wisc. to play in the Marquette Invitational. The Bobcats will face Marquette, Austin Peay and Butler.
