SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State sweeps William & Mary 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) to improve to 1-1 in the SMU Invite. The Bobcats beat the Tribe in three sets to increase their overall record to 5-9. Texas State will play Syracuse tomorrow in its last match of the SMU Invite.

Jessica Weynand wrapped up the match with 10 kills (.320) and four digs. Mo Middleton slammed down nine kills (.227), while AJ Watlington had eight kills (.533) and 11 digs, just shy of a double-double.

William & Mary jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but Texas State responded going up 9-4 on the Tribe forcing them to a timeout. The timeout did not help the as the Bobcats continued to take advantage of Tribe attack errors. William & Mary came close at 19-17, but Texas State pulled away with a kill and service ace by Watlington to end the set.

The second set brought some of the same issues for the Tribe as in the first. Two bad sets by the Tribe gave Texas State the first two points, followed by two kills by Weynand to put the Bobcats up, 4-0. Every time William & Mary came close, Texas State was able to build another lead and run with it. Weynand ended the set with a kill down the Tribe line to help Texas State move ahead, 2-0.

Unlike the first two sets, Texas State fell behind in the beginning of the set and didn't pass the Tribe until 16-All. A Melinda Cave ace and a Watlington kill pushed the Bobcats ahead 18-16. Texas State kept the lead from there, beating William & Mary, 25-18 to win the match.

Texas State hit .223 with 38 kills and 36 assists. William & Mary finished with 24 kills and 21 assists.

Tomorrow's match between Syracuse and Texas State at 1:00pm will be the first meeting for the two. The Orange will be the Bobcats second Big East opponent this year.

Texas State will start conference play on Thursday, Sept. 24 versus A&M-Corpus Christi at 6:30pm.
