SAN MARCOS, Texas - Texas State rounded out play in the 7th Annual CenturyTel Premier this afternoon, dropping a 3-0 decision to Texas A&M. The Bobcats finished second in the tournament, with the Aggies taking the championship. Texas State's overall record moves to 3-8.

Shelbi Irvin and Mo Middleton were both named to the all-tournament team. Irvin had 52 assists and 19 digs, while recording another double-double today with 13 assists and 11 digs. Middleton recorded 35 kills, 20 digs and four service aces over the course of the tournament as they helped lead Texas State to a runner-up finish.

The Bobcats dropped the first and second set, 25-17. Texas State had an early lead in the second starting with a kill by Mo Middleton to spark the Bobcat offense. The Aggies returned with a kill of their own when Kristen Schevikhoven spiked one down on the Texas State side. Middleton tallied her second kill of the set to give the Bobcats a 2-1 edge. Unfortunately, the Aggies were able to catch an offensive rhythm and went on to create a small lead over the Bobcats to eventually grab the set.

At the end of two sets the Bobcats found themselves down two. In the third set, AJ Watlington got things moving with a service ace to give the Bobcats a 9-8 lead. A near perfect set by Caleigh McCorquodale set up a kill by Jillian Wolpman that she sent right through two middle blockers. The Bobcats and A&M went back and forth trading points, and a Jessica Weynand service ace tied the set at 17-All. The last tie occurred at 19-All, then the Aggies built a slight lead and were able to grab the set with a service ace and win the match, 3-0.

The Bobcats had 30 kills, 27 assists and 44 digs. A&M finished with 39 kills, 36 assists and 48 digs. A&M was led by Sarah Ammerman who had 12 kills and six digs. Schevikhoven had 31 assists and eight digs.

Texas State hosts the University of Houston on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6:30pm. The Bobcats and the Cougars will meet up for the sixth straight year and the 32nd time overall.
