Volleyball Drops First Match of the Season

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Texas State Volleyball team lost its first match of the season 3-0 (22-25, 19-25, 23-25) to Ole Miss in its first match of the Tiger Invitational being hosted by the Missouri Tigers in Columbia, Mo. The Bobcats will play a total of three games over the course of the two-day tournament.

Freshman Matti Schumacher recorded eight kills and two block assists in her Bobcat debut. Junior right side hitter AJ Watlington also recorded eight kills. Brittany Collins tallied four kills, 17 assists and eight digs.

Service errors seemed to haunt both teams as the Bobcats had seven to the Rebels nine. In the end Ole Miss outhit the Bobcats on the kills board 42 to 30 to take the match in three.

Texas State returns to the court for the second time today at 6:30pm to play tournament host Missouri for their second match of the day.

The last time the two teams played each other was in 2007 when the Tigers participated in the CenturyTel Premier. Missouri won that match 3-1 to take a 1-0 series lead between the two teams in their only match-up. Missouri finished eighth in the Big 12 last year with a final record of 13-17.
