SAN MARCOS - Brian Borski gave a quality eight-inning performance on the mound and Tyler Sibley went 4-for-5 and scored two runs to aid the Texas State Bobcats in a 10-2 win over the Nicholls Colonels Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats improve to 36-12 overall and 22-6 in Southland Conference action, while the Colonels drop to 18-30 and 8-21, respectively.

Texas State punched out six hits for six runs in the bottom of the first to take the initial lead. Sibley and Bret Atwood hit back-to-back base hits and a wild pitch from Tyler Minto put the pair in scoring position. Paul Goldschmidt followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to plate Sibley, but Atwood was erased from the bases on a pickoff. With two outs and a clean diamond, Keith Prestridge drew a walk and Spenser Dennis singled to right field to push him to second. Ben Theriot backed the hit with a single through the right side and Kyle Livingstone mimicked the play to the opposite gap to send Dennis home. The two hitters followed him home in the next at-bat when Kyle Kubitza drove his first pitch over the centerfield wall for a three-run home run, his fifth long ball of the season.

Nicholls managed an unearned run in the top of the second to chip away at the lead, but Texas State knocked the tally back to a six-run lead on a solo home run from Paul Goldschmidt in the bottom of the frame.

Both teams saw three scoreless innings before another run crossed the plate and Kyle Kulbeth broke the silence with a lead-off solo home run in the top of the sixth.

The Bobcats rapped out three hits for three runs in the bottom of the stanza for the retort and the final runs of the game.

Texas State tallied 16 hits in the game over Nicholls seven-hit afternoon. Theriot went 3-for-4, while Atwood and Livingstone chipped in a pair of hits. Borski improved to 6-2 with the win and NSU hurler Minto falls to 2-3 with the loss.

The final game of the series will be played tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. A special senior recognition ceremony will take place prior to first pitch, honoring Tyler Brundridge, Spenser Dennis, Kane Holbrooks, Lance Loftin, Aaron Taylor, Zach Tritz and Adam Witek.
