FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 16, 2008 Contact: Denise Thompson, Assistant Sports Information Director Dt24@txstate.edu 512.245.2988 (o) 512.216.3440 (c) WACO, Texas - Texas State dropped a 7-4 decision to Baylor in its second game of the NCAA Waco Regionals, being held in Waco, Texas at Getterman Stadium. The Bobcats are still alive in the double elimination tournament as they will play the winner of Louisiana-Lafayette and Northwestern game tomorrow at 12:30pm at Getterman Stadium. Texas State must win three games tomorrow to move onto Super Regionals.

"It was a missed opportunity," said head coach Ricci Woodard. "We felt we could come out and win this ballgame and we didn't make the plays that we needed to at the times that we needed to and they capitalized on our mistakes and won the ballgame."

Allyce Rother has come on strong for the Bobcats in the past five games batting over .400. She recorded an RBI double in the bottom of the second, with Ryan Kos scoring at the plate to tie the game up at 1-1.

Alex Newton led off the third inning with a double to the right field wall for her 15th double of the season. With runners on second and third, Jenna Emery recorded an RBI single down the left field line, scoring Alex Newton on the play to once again tie the game.

The fourth inning saw four hits by the Bobcats, who came out swinging the bats well. McKenzie Baack got things started when she hit a single past the shortstop. Kos reached base on a fielder's choice, followed by a single by both Rother and Kristina Tello. Taylor Hall tallied Texas State's fourth single of the inning when she knocked the ball to left center, driving in Kos on the play.

Leah Boatright got things going in the fifth when the designated player hit a double to left field. Baack came up behind her to hit a single to right field. Kos batted down a successful bunt as she registered an RBI single with Boatright advancing home.

Baylor had a 7-4 edge entering the seventh inning and came away with the win to end the Bobcats six-game winning streak.

Texas State finished the game with four runs on 12 hits. Chandler Hall pitched a complete game, allowing four hits and two earned runs in 35 batters faced, suffering only her 10th loss of the season.

Alex Newton was 2-for-4 on the day, batting .335 with one run. Ryan Kos was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. McKenzie Baack finished 2-for-3 on the day batting .278.

"If we can come out and swing the bats as well again tomorrow and take care of business on the defensiveside, we have as good of a chance as anyone to win in three games, said Woodard."

Baylor finished the game with seven runs on five hits and one error. Whitney Canion registered a complete game, allowing 12 hits and four earned runs.

Brette Reagan tallied Baylor's first run of the game when she homered over the center field wall in the top of the first.

Baylor went ahead in the game after a four-run fifth inning that saw two Texas State errors.
