Arlington, TX - A six-run splurge in the fourth inning brought No. 25 Texas State within one run, but UT Arlington answered with six runs of their own to take a 14-6 win over the Bobcats Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.

UTA (29-24; 19-13 SLC) put two runs across in the bottom of the first and spread the margin to 7-0 with five runs off six hits in the bottom of the third.

Then, after three scoreless frames Kyle Kubitiza and Jason Martinson reached base on a pair of base hits with one out and Jordan Kopycinski walked to load the bases. In the next at-bat Kyle Livingstone capitalized on the situation and belted a two-run single up the middle to put Texas State on the board. Tyler Sibley tacked on another set of runs with a double down the left line and came home one batter later when Bret Atwood followed with a triple down the right line. Paul Goldschmidt plated Sibley with a two-base hit to centerfield and the Bobcats closed the inning with a one-run deficit.

Mitchell Pitts retired the inning in the bottom of the fourth, but in the bottom of the sixth UTA broke through with six runs, highlighted by a Matt Otteman grand slam, to take a 13-6 lead.

The Mavericks added their final run in the bottom of the eighth and Andy Sauter earned his fourth win of the season after shutting down the Bobcats for 3 2/3 innings.

UTA held a 17-11 lead over Texas State and all but one Maverick tagged a pair of hits in the win.

Atwood, Goldschmidt and Martinson led Texas State with a pair of hits.

Brian Borski was dealt the loss and falls to 6-3 on the season.

Texas State will close out the regular season tomorrow afternoon at 1:15 p.m. against UTA.
