WACO, Texas - Jenna Emery hit a seventh inning homer over the right field wall to give Texas State a 2-0 win over Baylor in Waco tonight. The hit was the Bobcats first hit of the game coming at a great time to set up the win. The Bobcats improve their record to 26-12, while earning their fourth straight and their fourth win over a Big 12 opponent this season. Baylor drops to 29-15 on the season.
Texas State in the bottom of the sixth got two runners on base when BU's Brittany Turner walked Kristina Tello to put a Bobcat on base. Alex Newton reached base next on a fielder's choice with Tello advancing to second. Taylor Hall reached base on a fielder's choice, but Tello was out at third to end the inning.
The Bobcats and Bears battled through six straight innings without any runs scored.
Leading off the seventh for the Bobcats was third baseman Jenna Emery who on the first pitch knocked the ball to deep right center to give Texas State its first hit and run of the game.
Chandler Hall stepped up to the plate next and hit the ball to center field for a hit and advanced to second on an error by the center fielder.
Baylor rallied back in the bottom of the seventh with a double by Bree Hanafin. Hanafin advanced to third on a wild pitch, putting the Bears in scoring position with one out on the board. C. Hall caught Meagan Weldon looking and Nicole Wesley flied out to center field to end the game and give the Bobcats the win.
Chandler Hall pitched 7.0 innings on the mound for a complete game and her 17th win of the season bringing her record to 17-6.
Baylor went through three pitchers on the night starting with Whitney Canion who pitched 4.0 innings registering nine strikeouts. Brittany Turner pitched 2.2 innings allowing three hits during her stay. Shaina Brock came in for relief only pitching 0.1 innings for the Bears.
Texas State returns home on Friday, April 10 when they host UTSA in a double header beginning at 5:00p.m. at Bobcat Field. The Bobcats and Roadrunners will then hit the dirt again on Saturday, April 11 with a 12:00p.m. start time to close out the I-35 Rivalry Series.
